What Are Dental Implants?

illustration of dental implantA dental implant is an artificial tooth root made from titanium and surgically placed into your jaw. Because titanium is a biocompatible material, it fuses naturally to the bone and is not toxic to living tissue, allowing for a long-lasting foundation for your new teeth. Once the placement of your implants is complete, a natural-looking artificial tooth will be affixed atop the implant.

Our Niceville dental implant dentists work with you to match your existing teeth in color and shape. We can also replace an entire arch if needed. The top priority of our office is ensuring your dental implants are functional, strong, and comfortable for everyday use. Some of the benefits you can expect from dental implants are:

  • Improved aesthetics
  • Enhanced quality of life
  • Restored bite function
  • Reduced risk of problems from missing teeth
  • Easier oral hygiene care
  • And more!

The Process of Dental Implants

Our team wants to make your Niceville implant treatment as seamless and successful as possible. In order to achieve that goal, you can expect the following process:

Evaluation: We begin the process with a thorough assessment of your current oral health to determine if you are a suitable candidate for dental implants. Our team never wants you to proceed with treatment without understanding exactly what we recommended or what will happen. We take the time to explain the different options available to you and gladly answer any questions.

Placement: Once you have qualified for dental implants and feel comfortable proceeding, the process begins with taking clear images of your entire mouth. A cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan will give us 3-D images that allow for greater accuracy when placing your implants. We will also assess your bone density to determine if you require bone grafts or a sinus lift. After completely mapping your jaws, your new dental implants will be surgically placed using computer-guided techniques.

Restorations: Depending on if you need a single tooth replaced or a full arch, your new teeth will be made in-office using CEREC® technology or sent out to a trusted lab. Regardless of if you're getting an implanted-supported crown, bridge, or denture, we ensure bite function and match the color of any existing teeth. The entire healing process should take between eight and twelve weeks. Our team will walk with you throughout the healing process and with scheduled follow-up visits to ensure your new teeth are comfortable and strong. Should you have any questions during the process, we are always here to help alleviate any concerns or problems.

CEREC Crowns for Rapid Placement

By using computer-aided design (CAD) and manufacturing (CAM), CEREC crowns are made from a strong ceramic material at the time of your visit. Your crowns are designed based upon the detailed images we take of your teeth and jaw, matching your desires and needs. The goal of our Niceville dental implant team is to offer aesthetically pleasing solutions so you can smile with confidence. Qualified CEREC crowns are fast and reliable to keep us from interrupting your daily life any more than necessary.

Safe and Effective Bone Grafts

As time progresses, bone loss or decreased bone density can occur in the jaw due to missing teeth. A bone graft is a procedure that returns strength to your jaw by attaching a piece of organic or synthetic bone where needed. This ensures an implant can be secured successfully. Should you require more bone density in your upper jaws, a sinus lift will need to be performed. We may refer you to a trusted local specialist to perform a more complex procedure before placing your implants.
